Running around town in a Ninja Suit
When I first started skateboarding, some of my friends thought I had lost my mind. I would've been better off running around town in a ninja suit then be seen riding a skateboard. The weird looks and comments were part of the territory but I was so stoked on skating, none of that mattered. Actually, I still get those weird looks today. Someone I haven’t seen in 15 years would read this post and say..."Skateboarding? That ninja lost his mind”. My parents didn't get it either, they thought I was on drugs. I remember having to explain myself. I remember showing my dad a skate video and him not getting it. I remember arguing with my mom about having a passion in life. I remember being chased for blocks, just because we had our boards. People love to use the term "do you", but are scared to be different. They should say “do you according to what everyone expects you to do”. Honestly, I saw skating as an extension of Hip Hop and more fulfilling then regular sports. Skateboarding was the drug.
